Online – 1:1 Tuition

1:1 Tuition

I offer one to one lessons online. I find this as effective as in-person tutoring, and there are many added benefits for the learner too. These individualised lessons are carefully planned to suit your child’s learning goals. For example, if they are working towards the 11+ exams, we will cover the curriculum in English and Maths as well as the 11+ Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning programmes (where applicable). Within the lessons, I also offer mentoring on exam technique and coaching to help calm exam nerves. I highlight common exam pitfalls and offer regular individualised feedback on your child’s progress.

Top Ten Benefits of Online Tuition

Students are inspired by learning online:

Adults can find technology a little daunting, but children find using technology a far more approachable way to learn. Primary age pupils have grown up in a digital age. They are very competent at using technology and often teach adults a thing or two! Online learning boosts students’ confidence and it gives them an added dimension through which to thrive.

Students are more engaged when learning online:

There is a plethora of Online Learning Tools that can be used by a Tutor during an online lesson. These are selected to suit an individual pupil’s learning style and needs and therefore children are more engaged with their learning.

Students can access their online work remotely:

Using an Online Whiteboard as a platform to share work means that students can have their work saved in one place and they can access it remotely at a later date. Links to Online Learning Tools can be saved on the whiteboard and Parents or Carers can use these with their children to consolidate their learning. Students can send their Tutor work to be uploaded to the platform and annotated online together.

Students can learn from any quite location (with a reliable WiFi connection):

Learning online means that students can learn from the comfort and safety of their own home, a relative’s house, whilst on holiday or in any quite location e.g. a library or café.

Students and their families do not waste valuable time:

Often students need to be taken to a Tutor’s home or Learning Centre for lessons. Online lessons mean that no time is wasted travelling to or from a given destination. Travel, particularly in London, can take a huge amount of time and cause delays to the start of a lesson. A Student or Tutor is less likely to be late for a lesson online, therefore lessons will start promptly.

Students/Families can easily change the day or time of their online lesson:

Your family calendar can be complex. Making sure the right child is dropped off or picked up at a particular time can be a logistical nightmare! Due to lessons being online, lessons can easily be changed to fit in with your weekly/termly/ holiday schedule. Additional ad-hoc lessons can be added easily if your child has a test approaching or if homework help is needed.

Students will improve their Technology Skills during online lessons:

In addition to the subject/s that your child is studying, children are introduced to a range of Online Tools and are taught how to use technology efficiently and safely.

Students will improve their Speaking and Listening Skills:

When learning online students need to listen to instructions very carefully and communicate their ideas very clearly when answering questions or completing tasks. In my experience students tend to talk more when working online compared to in person lessons. This is particularly useful for students who speak English as an additional language at home. Due to the face to face video communication, students practise looking directly at the tutor too.

Students have greater continuity of tuition when learning online:

Travel can disrupt in person lessons and weeks worth of lessons can be interrupted if a Student and/or Tutor goes away. Although we encourage a well-earned break for both Student and Tutor, online lessons can continue regardless of where in the world they have travelled.

Students are being Eco-Friendly:

With no travel needs and a reduced amount of printing/paper, online lessons are much more eco-friendly than face-to-face tutoring.
